Vitamin C

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an antioxidant and helps to prevent oxidative stress (or an imbalance between attacking reactive oxygen species and antioxidant defense) within the body. It also plays a role in the production of collagen. Vitamin C is responsible for recycling vitamin E and glutathione, two strong antioxidants. IV vitamin C can be administered in a much higher dose than oral administration so that maximum benefits can be seen. Vitamin C can decrease the duration and severity of cold symptoms, increase immunity, aid in the production of collagen for healthy skin, and help to remove free radicals from the body through its antioxidant properties. It is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

The adrenal glands (small walnut sized glands on top of each kidney) react to stress by releasing stress hormones such as cortisol. This and other hormones trigger the “fight or flight” reaction that allows us to spring into action when in danger. They also suppress the immune system, the body’s first line of defense against disease. Vitamin C reduces the levels of stress hormones in the blood and also reduced other typical indicators of physical and emotional stress when the adrenals are working properly.

When the adrenals not properly functioning, they are unable to excrete the proper amount of cortisol at the right time. With chronic stress, the adrenals are constantly pressured to produce cortisol, but eventually they are unable to produce enough quantity quickly enough and the adrenal become “fatigued”. Adrenal fatigue is characterized by chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, sugar cravings, hormonal imbalance, weight gain, lightheadedness, difficulty falling asleep or waking up, and poor response to stress. In adrenal fatigue, vitamin C helps take some pressure off the adrenals by helping them to secrete cortisol.

Regularly used for:

  • Adrenal fatigue
  • Acute illness such as flu/shingles
  • Wound healing from collagen production
  • Depression by raising neurotransmitter levels
  • Fatigue from EBV or chronic viral processes
  • Allergies (antihistamine properties)

Side Effects:

There are very few side effects, but they include mild lethargy/fatigue, nausea, and vein irritation. Please eat before each infusion.
